About Dry Herb Vaporizers

What is a dry herb vaporizer?

A dry herb vaporizer is a device that heats ground plant material to a temperature that releases active compounds as vapor — without combustion. Because nothing is burned, you get cleaner, smoother vapor compared to smoking. Temperatures typically range from 180°C to 220°C (356°F–428°F).

How is vaporizing different from smoking?

Smoking involves combustion, which produces carbon monoxide, tar, and other harmful byproducts. Vaporizing heats material below combustion point, producing vapor rather than smoke. Most users report a cleaner taste, less harshness on the throat, and a more efficient use of their material.

What's the difference between conduction and convection heating?

Conduction vaporizers heat your herb by direct contact with a hot surface — they heat up fast and are generally more affordable. Convection vaporizers pass hot air through the herb, producing more even, flavourful vapor. Many premium devices (like the Storz & Bickel Mighty+) use a hybrid of both for the best of both worlds.

What temperature should I vaporize at?

Most users start around 180–185°C (356–365°F) for light, flavourful vapor, then increase to 195–210°C (383–410°F) for denser, more potent vapor. Above 220°C (428°F) you risk combustion. Most quality vaporizers offer precise digital temperature control so you can dial in your preference.

Do I need to grind my herb before vaporizing?

Yes — a consistent, medium-fine grind gives the best results. It increases surface area for more even heating and better vapor production. We recommend a quality 4-piece grinder with a kief catcher for the best experience.

Choosing a Vaporizer

What's the best dry herb vaporizer for beginners?

For beginners, we recommend the PAX Mini (simple one-button operation), the DynaVap B (no battery, great value), or the Arizer Solo II (excellent flavour, easy to use). All are reliable, well-supported, and easy to learn.

What's the difference between a portable and desktop vaporizer?

Portable vaporizers are battery-powered and designed for use on the go. Desktop vaporizers plug into the wall and are designed for home use — they typically produce superior vapor quality and are better for group sessions. The Storz & Bickel Volcano and Arizer XQ2 are our top desktop picks.

Which vaporizer has the best warranty?

PAX offers the longest warranty at 10 years. DynaVap offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Storz & Bickel offer 2 years, and Arizer offer 2 years. All warranties are honoured through Vaporisers.com — we handle claims on your behalf.

Are DynaVap vaporizers hard to use?

DynaVap devices have a small learning curve — you heat the tip with a torch lighter until you hear a click, then inhale. Most users get the hang of it within a few sessions. The payoff is exceptional flavour, zero batteries, and near-indestructible build quality. See our buyer's guide for more detail.
